FC Heracles is a professional Dutch football team from Almelo. It gets its name from the famous mythical hero Heracles (the Greek name of, as it is better known, Hercules). The team was founded in 1903. He has twice won the Dutch championship and once reached the final of the Dutch Cup.

Heracles currently plays at Erve Asito Stadium in Amelo. This stadium was built in 1999, with a capacity of 6,900 seats at the time. It was then increased to 8,500 seats in 2005. But in the 2015/16 season, a new renovation was made, increasing the stadium's capacity to 13,500 spectators.

After it was founded under the name Heracles, in 1974 its name was changed to SC Heracles ’74, but later (1998) it regained its current name.

In the 2015/16 season, the club managed to reach sixth place in the Eredivisie, which gave them the opportunity to play in playoffs for European football. The team managed to beat FC Groningen and FC Utrecht, which allowed it for the first time in its history to qualify for a European club tournament, the third qualifying round of the Europa League season 2016/17. Then they faced Aruka, reaching a 1:1 draw at home, and another draw as guests, but this time 0:0, which is why they dropped out, as Aruka has more goals scored as a guest.

Its best achievements are the national championship, won once in 1926/27 and again in 1940/41, reaching the final of the Dutch Cup (KNVB Cup) and reaching the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. In addition, the club twice became champion of the First Division (Eerste Divisie), the second level of professional Dutch football.
