Alkmaar Zaanstreek also known as AZ Alkmaar or AZ ’67 is a professional football team from Alkmaar, the Netherlands, which was formed in 1967 when FC Zanstrek and Alkmaar ’54 merged. The club plays its home games at AFAS Stadium.

It has won two Eredivisie titles. A four-time winner of the Dutch Cup (KNVB Cup). Also won the Dutch Super Cup (Johan Cruyff Shield). Its greatest achievements in European championships are reaching the final of the UEFA Cup / Europa League.

The team was formed in 1967 as AZ ’67 after the merger of FC Zanstrek and Alkmaar 54. FC Zanstrek was created in 1964, continuing the professional adventures of KFC (founded in 1910 and almost became national champion). Two former KFC players, the Molenar brothers, decided to form a strong football team in Zanstrek, but their first venture failed, and they later successfully merged KFC (now FC Zanstrek) with Alkmaar ’54 and chose Alkmaar as their headquarters. From the very beginning of its existence, the team accumulated significant debts, mainly due to the purchase of expensive foreign players. But its founders managed to cope and invested heavily in the club, which led to a successful performance in the late 70's - early 80's. In 1981 it became the champion of the Netherlands, which made them the only team besides the "Big Three" (Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord), which became the champion of the country in a 44-year period.

In 1988, Alkmaar dropped out of the Eredivisie. However, the team was later funded by businessman Dirk Scheringa in the mid-1990s, leading to its return to the Eredivisie in 1998. At the end of the 2008/09 season they were crowned champions of the Eredivisie.

Famous players from Alkmaar are Dembele, Sergio Romero, Esteban Alvarado, Kristen Nugard, Thomas Lam, Graziano Pele, Hector Moreno, John Bosman, Tim de Claire, Barry van Galen, Vincent Jansen, David Mendes da Silva, Nemanja Gudeja, Mathieu Levi Garcia etc.
