Heernveen Sports Club is a Dutch professional football team from Heernveen. It was founded in 1920. It plays at Abe Lenstra Stadium and is nicknamed "The Super Frisians". It is one of the few teams in the highest level of Dutch football that can compete with the "Big Three" (Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord) for the top positions in the rankings. Its former president, Riemer van der Velde, is the longest-serving professional football team president in the Netherlands, leading the club from 1983 to September 2006.

Heernveen's biggest achievement in the Eredivisie was reaching second place in 2000. The club won the Dutch Cup also known as KNVB Cup. He has played in the Europa League, UEFA Cup, Intertoto and Cup Winners' Cup, but has not made significant achievements in these tournaments.

A rather fierce rivalry of Heernveen is that with SC Cambuur. One of the reasons for this is the short distance between the two teams, which is why they often call each other DKV (from Dertig Kilometer Verderop or, at thirty kilometers), so as not to mention their names. But there is other reason and it is more interesting. Most of the Heernveen fans are from small villages across the country and are quite proud of their Frisian identity. Since the 1980s, the club has expressed this Friesian pride throughout the Netherlands, with the Friesian flag (called Friesland by some sources), the Friesian anthem and all Frisian symbols associated with the club, making Heernveen the face of Friesland. As a result, Cambuur fans began to distance themselves from Frisian identity, and today Cambuur does not even consider themselves Frisian, even though they are in the provincial capital.
