Real Sociedad is a professional football team from the city of San Sebastian, Basque Country. It was established in 1909 and holds its home matches at the Estadio Anoeta Stadium. They have twice been champions of Spain, winners of the Primera Division in 1981 and 1982. They are two-time winners of Copa del Rey. They also won the Spanish Super Cup. Known by the nickname "La Real".

One of the founders of La Liga in 1929 and his longest series in this echalon was 40 seasons - from 1967 to 2007.

A notorious scandal involving the name of Real Sociedad begins with the confession of former team president Inyaki Badiona, who revealed that between 2001 and 2007 Real Sociedad paid about 300,000 euros to Eufemiano Fuentes - a doctor who was investigated for connections with the Spanish national team and other Spanish footballers - to give doping to the players. The president of the Professional Football League for the years 2005 to 2013, Jose Luis Astiazaran, rejects these claims.

The team is made up of students and workers returning from the UK. It was then called the San Sebastian Recreation Club and competed in the Copa del Rey in 1905. In the same year they formed the San Sebastian Football Club. The name was changed several more times, until in 1910 King Alfonso XIII became a patron of the club, from where he acquired his current name.

Real Sociedad won its first Primera Division title in the 1980/81 season. In 1987, the team set a record for most goals in the quarterfinals of Copa del Rey, beating Mallorca 10:1. Along with most of the teams they had many ups and downs, and in the 21st century the club played his 2000th game in La Liga.
