Fortuna Sittard Football Club is a professional team from Sittard, Netherlands. It was created in 1968 as a result of the merger of two teams - Sitardia and Fortuna ’54. Fortuna Sittard has twice been national champion and also has вон the Dutch Cup (KNVB Cup). The club plays their home games at the Fortuna Sittard stadium- with a capacity of 12,500 spectators. The Bulgarian football player Kamen Hadjiev played in the team.

Fortuna has never been a spectacular team throughout its history, although it was a regular player in the Eredivisie in the 1990s. Fortuna ‘54 is a relatively successful club that won the Dutch Cup in 1956/57, finished second in the Eredivisie after Ajax the same year. Then they won the cup again in 1964. At the same time, Sittardia fought fiercely against relegation for many seasons. However, due to financial difficulties, the two clubs merged in 1968 and so today's Fortuna Sittard was born.

At the end of the 1999/2000 season, the club seemed to be experiencing significant difficulties. Poor management led to the purchase of several expensive players, but they did not perform well. The team was relegated to the First Division in the 2001/02 season and things got even worse. Financial irregularities were discovered and the team was threatened with bankruptcy. But in the winter of 2003, two Fortuna fans won the Dutch lottery and donated their winnings to the team.

In 2009, the Royal Dutch Football Association announced that it would revoke Fortuna Sittard's license for the 2010/11 season. A civil lawsuit followed, and that decision was overturned, and the team retained its license. Financial difficulties still "accompanied" the team, but in recent years it has managed to achieve a stable financial level.

In 2018, after spending 16 years in the First Division, the team managed to win a place back in the Eredivisie.
