Royal Standard Liege (better known as Standard Liege) is a professional team from Liège, Belgium, which is among the most successful football clubs in the country. The club plays at Maurice Dufrasne Stadium. The team was founded in 1898 and is nicknamed the "The Reds".

Standard Liege played at the highest level of Belgian football from 1921 until today. In 1923 he received the right to add the word "royal" to his name. This title is given personally by the Belgian monarch to any company that has been half a century old, but in the case of Standard Liege, the club was only 25 years old.

It has won the national champion 10 times. In another 13 seasons it finished second in the championship. An eight-time winner of the Belgian Cup, a one-time winner of the League Cup and a four-time winner of the Belgian Super Cup. The best performance in international championships was reaching the finals of the KNK in 1981/82.

In 1957/58 he won the championship for the first time in itshistory, and the following year he reached the quarterfinals of KESH. In the 1969/70 season it improved his achievement, reaching the KESH semifinals.

The 80's were a relatively controversial period for the club, reaching the final for the KNK in the 1981/82 season, where they faced Barcelona and lost, but two years later a scandal erupted. It turns out that the coach persuaded the management of Standard Liege to bribe players of the club against which Standard must play in the last match of the elite, Watershay, to secure an easy victory and protect his players for the match against Barcelona.

It took the club 20 years to recover from the scandal, but it eventually won many trophies.
