RasenBallsport Leipzig is a German football team from Leipzig, a city in Germany, in the state of Saxony. They were founded in 2009 on the initiative of the company Red Bull. They play their home games at the Red Bull Arena. Also known by their nicknames "bulls" and "red bulls".

It is interesting fact for the team that its creation has been the subject of much criticism, due to the obvious control from "Red Bull" company and the restrictive membership policy. This is in contrast to the common practice in Germany, where football clubs usually relied on voluntarily registered associations, sometimes with a large number of members, using the 50 + 1 rule to provide a formal control share for club members. Leipzig has been criticized for probably being founded as a marketing tool and an attempt to commercialize football in Germany. Criticism is widespread.

The founding of the club was also met with protests by supporters of other football clubs in the city of Leipzig, who feared that this would lead to the decline of the traditional support culture in Leipzig and the commercialization of football in the area.

Leipzig after the club was founded, began playing in the Oberliga North (which is the fifth level of club football in Germany), winning it in the first season. Then, in the 2012-13 season, the club won a chance to play in the Third League. In the first season there they have managed to climb to the Second Bundesliga. And in 2015-16 were promoted to the Bundesliga.
