Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux (often referred to as Bordeaux) is a professional French team from the city of Bordeaux and is nicknamed the "Girondins". It was founded in 1881 and hosts visiting teams at The Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux arena. Тhe club is among the most successful teams in France and regularly plays in the Champions League or UEFA Europe League.

It is a six-time Ligue 1 champion. Three-time French Cup winner, two-time French League Cup winner, two-time French Super Cup winner, Delhi Alps Cup winner, Intertoto Cup winner and UEFA Cup finalist. Famous players from the club are Eric Cantona, Didier Deschamps, Bernard Lacombe, Jean-Pierre Papin, Alain Giresse, Jacques Tigana, Zinedine Zidane, Alain Roche, Eduardo Sousa, Denilson, Ricardinho, Savio, Artnour Gudjohnsen and others.

It is not certain when exactly the Bordeaux team was created. Some claim that this happened in 1881, according to others it happened in 1882. Bordeaux's first official match was in 1919. It acquired its professional status in 1937. The first trophy was won in 1941 - the French Cup. In 1948/49 they have won Ligue 2, and the following year even became the champions of Ligue 1.

In the 90s of the 20th century he won 2 French Cups and 3 Ligue 1 titles. Played his most successful domestic championship in 1986/87, when the club have won their first (and only) double. A difficult 10 years followed, with a financial crisis in the early 1990s and relegation to Ligue 2. But the team spent only a few seasons there and then returned to the elite of French football.
