The Norwegian Premier League is called Eliteserien. It was founded in 1991, before that it was called the Norwegian League, Main League, First Division, etc. Subsequently, the First Division came to be called the second tier in Norwegian football before it was changed to Adeccoligaen due to sponsorship by Adeccoligaen.

Sixteen teams participate in the league. The season runs from March to early November. Each club plays twice (as a host and as a guest) with everyone else. Each club has a total of 30 matches, and a total of 240 matches for the season. 3 points are awarded for a victory, 1 for a draw, and no points are awarded for a loss.

The first in the final standings of Eliteserien win the national championship and received the right to play in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. SThe second and third placed clubs are included in the third and second qualifying rounds of the Europa League, respectively. The winner of the cup also has a place in the third qualifying round of the Europa League, and if it has already qualified for a European tournament, this privilege is given to the fourth team in the Eliteserien.

The clubs in the last two places in Elitserien are eliminated in Adeccoligaen, with the first two clubs in the second division taking their places. The 14th-place team is playing in the playoffs with the third-place club in Adeccoligaen.

Most appearances in The Norwegian Premier League belong to Daniel Berg Hestad (473). The best goal scorer is the former player of Resunborg and Tromso - Sigurd Rushfeldt, who scored 172 goals.
