Venezia is a professional football club from the city of the same name. Venice is no longer associated with football, but with its architecture: water canals cutting through the city and gondolas floating along them. Venezia has only one trophy in its history, won back in 1941 - the Italian Cup. In Serie A, the team also did not shine, having only once climbed the podium. In the top division of the Italian championship, Venezia spent a total of 14 seasons. The team is currently playing in Serie A.

Venezia Football Club was founded on December 14, 1907 through the merger of two local sports sections. The first matches the team played in the forest glade of Sant'Elena, as it did not have its own stadium. In its debut match on December 22 of the same year, ended with a draw - 1:1.

From the moment of its foundation to the present day, the emblem of Venezia is adorned with a winged lion - the invariable coat of arms of the city. His sculptures are located throughout Venice. Because of this, the team received the nickname - "winged lions".

At first, the club performed in red and blue colors, but since 1911 they changed the coloring to black and green, so that the kit was different from Genoa's. In 1987, more orange was added. Venezia is currently playing with orange-black-green kits.

Venezia has one of the oldest stadiums in Italy. " Pier Luigi Penzo" was built in 1913 and bears the name of the Italian fighter pilot of the First World War. At first, the arena was completely wooden, then it was reconstructed several times.

After the departure of Mazzola and Loic, the results of Venezia slowly began to decline. In 1949, the leapfrog on the coaching bridge and the club's management led to the fact that the "winged lions" flew to Serie B, and two years later, they ended up in Serie C. It was possible to return to the elite division of Venezia in 1962. In Serie A, the “winged lions” slammed Juventus (3:0) and the future champion - Milan (2:1), but finished the championship at the bottom of the standings. It was just a local success. Soon the team dropped in class again, and in 1968 flew to Serie C, where they will spend the next 23 years.

In the fall of 2015, Venice was acquired by an American company led by Joe Tacopina. They immediately took up the promotion of the brand. Last season Venezia was the only Serie B team to sign a premium deal with Nike. This gave buns in an exclusive shape. The Americans also presented a new project for a stadium with 25 thousand seats.

In 2020, Tacopina left for Catania and the club was taken over by VFC Newco 2020.

Last season, Venezia took fifth place in Serie B, and in the final playoffs she was able to defeat Citadella (1: 0, 1: 1) and 19 years later returned to Serie A.

The title of the team's top scorer in history is shared by two strikers - Francesco Pernigo and Filippo Magnero. 

Pernigo played for Venice during the golden period - from 1938 to 1947. During this time, he scored 54 goals in 170 matches. He helped the team win the Italian Cup and the Serie A bronze medals. Pernigo's career also featured two matches for the Italian national team, in which he scored five goals.

Magnero performed in Venice from 1998 to 2002. He played 129 matches for the team and also scored 54 goals. At one time he was a formidable bunch of forwards "winged lions" with Alvaro Recoba.
