Troyes is a French professional football club from the city of the same name, which is located in the north of the country and is the capital of the historic Champagne region. By European standards, Troyes is considered a relatively young but rapidly growing club.

Troyes in its present form was officially founded in 1986, although before that the club had older ancestors who did not manage to survive due to the financial crisis. Since the late 90s, "farmers" have been balancing mainly between the first and second divisions, not abandoning their attempts to gain a foothold in Ligue 1 on a permanent basis.

A new chapter in the history of the club begins in 1986. This time, Troyes began his ascent to the elite of French football from the sixth division. The Farmers were rapidly moving up the lower national leagues and in 1990 they played in the third division. For three seasons, the Blues were in third to sixth places and it seemed that the next promotion was just around the corner. However, in 1993, due to the reform of the French football leagues, Troyes again found himself in the fourth division.

Fortunately, the next difficulties did not lead to the disappearance of the team and at the end of the 1995/96 season, Troyes climbed to Ligue 2, and three years later, for the first time in the club's modern history, he made his way to the top division. Since then, the Farmers have spent nine seasons in Ligue 1 and have represented their country twice in European competition.

Throughout their history, the “farmers” have been desperately fighting for a place among the elite of French football, so each season in Ligue 1 can already be considered a major achievement for the club. Trois twice survived the bankruptcy and liquidation of the team, but still rose from the ashes and declared himself not only in the national championship, but also in the European arena.

After the club's last reorganization, Troyes took part in Ligue 1 for the first time in 1999. In their debut season, the farmers fought for survival, but in the end they took the 14th position and retained their registration in the top division. A real triumph awaited the Blues in the 2000/01 season. Troyes showed stable results throughout the championship and finished in a record seventh in the history of the club, which made it possible to make his debut in European competition. It is worth noting that, among other teams, the "farmers" were ahead of such giants of French football as PSG, Marseille and Monaco.

The debut in European competition turned out to be very successful for Troyes. After finishing seventh in League 1 of the 2000/01 season, the Blues were qualified to play in the Intertoto Cup. The Farmers started their way in the tournament from the second round, where they prevailed over WIT Georgia, having won in a home match against the Georgian club their biggest European victory with a score of 6: 0. At the next stage, Troyes passed the Greek AIK, winning both matches with the same score 2: 1, after which in the semifinals, it was not easy to deal with a more serious rival - Wolfsburg (1: 0, 2: 2).

The best scorer and at the same time the record holder for the number of matches played for the club is attacking midfielder Benjamin Nivet. The midfielder played for the Farmers from 2002 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2019, scoring a total of 84 goals in 429 games.
