Watford FC is a sports team from England that competes professionally and is from the city of Watford, Hertfordshire, England. Founded in 1881, they play their home games at Vickering Road. The initial nickname of the team was The Brewers, however it was changed to The Hornets, after a vote via the supporters club.
The team was founded as Watford Rovers in 1881. First participated in the FA Cup in 1886-87. Won the County Cup for the first time in 1889. The club was named West Hertfordshire in 1893. Then started playing in the Southern Football League in 1896. The team joined the professionals in 1897. In 1898, West Hertfordshire and Watford St Mary's merged to form Watford FC.
The Hornets have twice won the Third English Division, once won the Fourth English Division and once won the Southern Football League, and are currently playing in the English Premier League.
