Hellas Verona is a team from the northeastern city of Verona. It was founded in 1903 by high school students, and the name "Hellas" was given by a professor at the university (translated from Italian: Greece). The club is distinguished by its yellow and blue colors, borrowed from the emblem of the city. This gave them the nickname "jalublu" (yellow-blue), but they are often called by supporters "mastiffs" or "scaligers". The latter is in honor of the eponymous lordly family of Verona.

Verona's home matches are held at the local sports facility "Mark Antonio Bentegodi". The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 seats and is also used by Chievo Verona and Bardolino Verona (women's football team). It was opened on December 15, 1963, but in 1989 it was renovated for the upcoming World Cup, when it hosted 3 matches from the group stage and one 1/16-finals.

In its early years, Verona underwent huge changes, uniting with a variety of local opponents - Scaligeri, Elas and Bentegodi. Despite the high hopes that crept into the club, the first participation in Serie A became a fact in 1957. In fact, it did not turn out to be as profitable as Verona dropped out in its first season.

The best period of Hellas Verona were in the 70s and 80s, when they repeatedly reached the first half of the standings. In 1982/1983 and 1983/1984 the team played n the finals of the Italian Cup, but lost them to Juventus and Roma respectively.

However, the club's management did not give up in its attempt to build a strong team competing with the best in Italy. In the next campaign, Verona made a breakthrough in Serie A and won its only championship title. The team finished in first place with 43 points, leaving behind clubs such as Turin, Roma, Juventus and Internazionale.

In recent years, football fans from the city of Verona have reason to rejoice. An extremely interesting rivalry was built between Hellas Verona and Chievo, called "Derby della Scala". In its earliest editions, the derby demonstrated Hellas Verona's dominance in the stands, as Chievo supporters had to occupy the visiting sectors even in their home matches. They last met in 2017, when the Mastiffs lost 3:2.
