Paderborn 07 is a football club from the German city of the same name, based in North Rhine-Westphalia. It hosts its home matches at the Benteler Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000 seats. The home kit of the team are in intertwined black and blue colors, and the away ones are usually in yellow or white. It is nicknamed "Es Ce Pe", but is often called "07" due to the year of foundation.
In fact, the existence of the current club is not from the beginning of the XX century. For a long time, the people of Paderborn have witnessed a fierce local clash between the teams of Tus Scholes Newhouse and FC Paderborn. The competition between them lasted until 1980, when Scholes Newhouse qualified for the second level of German football. After sports-technical and financial turmoil, the two teams merged, which became a fact in 1985. The current name SC Paderborn 07 was adopted in 1997.
The best years of the club came in the new millennium. In the 2004/2005 season, Paderborn 07 won the Northern Regional League and qualified for the Second Bundesliga after a 30-year absence from professional football. In the meantime, construction of a new sports facility with a capacity of 15,000 seats has started. Its official opening was in 2008, when a friendly match was played with Borussia Dortmund, lost 1:2.
The recent history of the club is connected with its presence in the elite echelon of German football. For the first time Paderborn won a promotion and earned their place in the First Bundesliga in the 2014/2015 season. Unfortunately "Es Ce Pe" finished in the last 18th position. After several years of wandering between the second and third divisions, in the 2019/2020 season SC Paderborn 07 is again part of the elite.
The showcase of the club is filled with trophies only from the regional divisions, and the most significant awards are related to the silver medals of the Second Bundesliga. In its best years in the new century, the club was led by Bulgarian coach Pavel Dochev. Under his leadership, the "black and blues" recorded several consecutive seasons in the Second Bundesliga.
