Metz - detailed statistics and predictions for the upcoming matches
Metz Football Club is one of the oldest professional teams in France. It was established in 1932 as a result of a merger of two local teams. Much of Metz's history has been linked to Ligue 1, but there have been a few setbacks in the lower levels of French football. The team is nicknamed the "grenades" and plays its home clashes at the stadium "Steid-Symphorien", which has a capacity of 27,000 seats.
The most remarkable success of FC Metz was the runner-up position in League 1 in the 1997/1998 season, when they finished with an identical point asset with Lance, but had a worse goal difference. Among the trophies of the team we distinguish four titles won in League 2, the last of which became a fact in 2019. Metz has in his showcase 2 Cups of France and 2 Cups of the League. They last made it to the finals in 1999, but lost minimally to Lance.
Metz FC is famous for its history in European tournaments, although most of the participations ended abruptly. Among their most impressive performances in Europe is the 1/8 final in 1997 in the UEFA Cup. Three years later, Metz played a final in the now defunct Intertoto Cup. They have won 1:0 at home against West Ham, but on English soil suffered a 1:3 defeat, which left the team without a trophy in club competitions.
A number of popular names have passed through the team from the northeastern parts of France. Among them we distinguish Plamen Markov, who recorded 69 appearances with the team of "grenades". In the recent past, another Bulgarian footballer was part of Metz, but played mainly in the second team. This was the defender Martin Kavdanski. World-famous stars associated with the club are Frank Ribery, Miralem Pjanic, Emanuel Adebayor, Robert Pires and others.
The most important match for the team's fans is the clash with Nancy, called the "Lorraine Derby". The rivalry with Strasbourg is also strong due to the geographical location and proximity of the two cities.
