KV Mechelen is a football club from the city of Mechelen, located in the province of Antwerp. It was founded in 1904, a few months after the creation of the local opponent - KRK Mechelen. Playing their matches at the Achter de Kazerne Stadium, which has a capacity of 16,672 seats. Yellow and red colors are used for the home games, hence their nickname - "yellow-red".

Mechelen's first participation in the elite was in the 1921/1922 season. In the early years, the team did not stay long with the best, because of his hesitant performance. In the period 1928-1956, Mechelen played in the first echelon, winning it three times - 1943, 1946 and 1948. In the 60's and 70's of the last century there was a new collapse in the performance of the "yellow-reds", which repeatedly leads to the lower divisions.

The next significant period in the history of the club was between 1983 and 1997. They have won the championship in 1989, and also won their first local cup - 1986/1987. Mechelen's last trophy was won in 2019, after winning the Belgian Cup for the second time. In the final, they met Gent and, although received a goal first, managed to win their first trophy in 20 years.

Mechelen has several appearances in European club tournaments. In their first ever European campaign, they have won the KNK after a victory over Ajax. In the next match for the Super Cup against the other Dutch grand PSV again triumphed with a total score of 3:1.

Although Mechelen won the cup in 2019, the last two years are not among the most revered by supporters. Mechelen is involved in a match-fixing scandal after it was established that the club's management had tried to bribe Waasland-Beveren players in the last match of the 2017/2018 season. Despite an appeal by the club, the European football headquarters banned KV Mechelen from playing in the Europa League, and the local federation removed the team from the Belgian Cup for a period of one year.
