The city's representative football team is called Greuther Furth. He is a long-term participant in the German Second Bundesliga. Furth is also famous with its baseball team.

Greuther Furth is a club with more than a century of history, since it was founded back in 1903. At that time, few sports associations could boast of an independent football division, so for three years the football subsidiary was part of the Turnverein 1860 Fürth gymnastics club. At first, the football club bore the name of the city - Fürth. This team made its debut in the league of the German eastern district - Ostkraislig, where it dominated in the mid-10s of the last century. So, Furth became the champion of the Ostkraisliga three times in a row - from 1912 to 1914. The club developed at a fast pace, after the next gold medals in the eastern district league, its number was three thousand people. Furth has become not only the largest but also the most popular club in Germany.

The main attribute of the Greuther Furth logo is the clover, which was borrowed from the coat of arms of the city of Furth. That is why the team is also called "clover" or "shamrocks". After the founding of the team, no one had any questions about what color of the uniform to choose - of course, green! The clover color that should bring the club good luck and victory.

Throughout its long history, Greuther Furth has never been able to make it to European competition. Shamrocks were close to entering the European arena in the 2011-12 season thanks to a solid run in the German Cup, but Greuther lost in the semi-finals to Borussia Dortmund.

But Greuther Furth has the experience of playing in the Intertoto Cup. In 1969, in the ninth Intertoto Cup, Greuther Furth played in Group 3 with the teams Zaglembe Sosnovets, Wiener Sport-Club and Djurgarden. In six matches, the clovers won two wins, three draws and one defeat and became the best in their quartet.

Greuther Furth's highest scoring player is the german striker Frank Thur, who defended the club's colors from 1994 to 2002. As part of Greuther Furth, Thur played 238 matches, in which he scored 86 goals.
