Granada is a football club from the Andalusian city of the same name. It was founded on April 14, 1931, as Recreativo de Granada. In the early years, the team played with blue and white home kit, but after the Spanish Civil War, that changed. Since then, CF Granada has been wearing red and white shirts with stripes.

The team played its home games at Los Carmenes, which opened on May 16, 1995. Before that, Granada held its matches at other stadiums with a smaller capacity. The newly built stadium was opened by Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen in a match that ended with a win for the "The Whites". Granada's first match at their new home was on August 22, when they won 4:1 in a friendly game against Betis.
El Grana is one of the most successful teams in Andalusia. It became the third club in the region (after Sevilla and Betis) to qualify for the first echelon of Spain. This happened in the 1941/1942 season, when they finished in 10th place. Spent 24 seasons in the elite division and rank 22nd in the eternal rankings of the Iberian Championship.

Their best ranking in the championship is sixth place, which is achieved twice - in 1972 and 1974. They have a few titles from Segunda and Tercera, won mainly in the middle of last century. Their strongest performance for Copa del Rey took place in the 1958/1959 season, when they qualified for the final, but lost to Barcelona 4:1 at the Bernabeu.

Granada's main rivalries are against local clubs, with Malaga being the most prominent. The clash between them is called the "Derby of Eastern Andalusia" and has been held 85 times so far. The victories for Granada are 32, Malaga has 28 wins, and 25 of the matches ended in a draw. Other historical opponents are the teams from Seville.
