Girona Football Club is a professional team from Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It was founded in 1930 and in the 2016/17 season were promoted to La Liga for the first time in their history. They play their home games at the Estadi Montilivi Stadium. Known by his nicknames "white-red" and "girons".

It was founded on July 23, 1930 in the Café Norat in La Rambla in Girona after the break-up of Unio Esportiva Girona for economic reasons. Entered the Second Division of the Catalan Championship. The first season in the Spanish Second Division was in 1935/36 and finished in the first place. After the Spanish Civil War, the club moved to the Second and Third Divisions. In the following decades alternated between the third and fourth divisions, even spending three seasons in regional championships. After 49 years, they finally managed to return to the Second Division in 2008. After the 2016/17 season, the club managed to win a promotion to La Liga for the first time in their history.

On August 23, 2017, it was announced that City Football Group (SFG) had acquired 44.3% of Girona's ownership. Another 44.3% is owned by Girona Football Group, led by Pere Guardiola, the brother of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

In July 2018, it was announced that Girona will participate in its first pre-season international tournament in India, where it will meet teams from India and Australia.

Since its founding, the team has spent 3 seasons in regional championships, 44 seasons in the Third Division, 13 seasons in the Segunda Division B, 21 seasons in Segunda Division and 1 season in La Liga.
