Cagliari - detailed statistics and predictions for the upcoming matches
Cagliari Calcio is a professional team that competes in Italian football. It is based in the eponymous town of Cagliari, which is located on the island of Sardinia, hence its nickname "Sardinians". It was founded in 1920.
In 1951/52 it became the only winner in Serie C (at that time the title was shared between several teams). The club reached Serie A in 1964, but did not make a successful debut and was in last place in the middle of the season. However the second half of the season they managed to beat Juventus and Milan, which helped them finish in 7th place. Their first chance to win the Serie A trophy was in 1968/69, but failed to become champions. However it was done only a year later.
Bad times followed and Cagliari dropped out of Serie A to Serie B. In 1979, they managed to return to Serie A, where they remained until 1987, but then were forced to start playing in Serie C. Claudio Ranieri was a game changer for the club and "guided" them through Serie B and to Serie A (in 1990). The team enjoyed some success, even reaching the semifinals of the UEFA Cup.
However, the 21st century has not been very successful for Cagliari. In just one season (2005/06) their manager was changed 3 times. Marco Gianpaolo then became the team's coach, but was fired after 17 games. They did not achieve much improvement. However, the team managed to maintain its position in Serie A.
