Beerschot VA is one of the legendary Belgian clubs, located in the southern part of Antwerp. The idea for its creation arose in 1895, but the club was established in 1899, when many of the players of FC Antwerp joined the ranks of the new club.

The team's home games are held at Kiel or often referred to as Olympic stadium, a stadium set up specifically for the 1920 Olympics. Beerschot VA players wear purple shirts when playing at home, and all-white kit are often used for away games.

In 1907, Beerschot won promotion to the First Division, where it remained for 73 years (66 seasons). This period has been called the "Golden Age" by the club's fans, as the unique seven championship titles have been won. The last of them became a fact in the season 1938/1939, when Beerschot VA finished at the top with a convincing lead over the 2nd in the table.

In the 1970s, "Purple White Army" won the Belgian Cup twice (1971 and 1979). These are the last significant trophies, as difficult years are ahead for the club. In the late 1980s, Beerschot lost their license and was sent to the 3rd Division. Difficult times continued for nearly 30 years before the team went bankrupt in 2013.

Up to date, Beerschot is playing in the elite of Belgium, but it is far from his most glorious days. The good news for the fans is that they can enjoy elite football and watch the big derby against Antwerp.
